For this visual literacy project, I had to communicate the concept of “the past and the present” through a magazine cover and chose women's fashion as my main theme. I wanted to show how women's fashion has evolved through the decades and what the most influential fashion trends were in the past and now in the present. For the past I chose 50s fashion, specifically American fashion and focused on "The New Look" which is a feminine fashion style that consisted mainly of cinched and flared dresses. My illustration style was inspired by the vintage comic art style of that era. For the present, I focused on Japanese street fashion, since Japan is known to be fashion forward. For my illustration, I was inspired by the "Mode Style", which is a more abstract, minimalistic and androgynous street style, which invloves layering oversized pieces of clothing.
